Under the support of Population Council, Makerere University, AIDS Information Centre, Horizon International, Sida and Kampala City Council, youth friendly HCT services were started in 2002. This was the first initiative of this kind in the region specifically targeting young people An average of 40 young people seek this service per day.
This service enables young people to learn about HIV/AIDS, take a decision to test for HIV and seek information about referral services. During HIV counseling sessions clients are informed about HIV Testing (rapid, same day results), the benefits of contraceptive use, couples testing and disclosure. After testing, clients are referred to other internal or external services. Routine counseling and testing is being promoted especially in the antenatal clinic. The Centre also carries out a number of community based HCT services. For more information about community based HCT services contact NTIHC.
